A MAN has been jailed after he acted in a racially aggravated manner towards two shop workers who he believed had short changed him 21p.

Alan Luke, 39, appeared in the dock for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court for three separate matters which he plead guilty to.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that Luke went into Din and Co on Westercommon Drive on August 21, 2015 to buy a bottle of cider.

Luke, of Murano Crescent, Maryhill, began to argue with one of the shop assistants and made the claim that he had been shortchanged.

He asked for his 21p and she explained that she gave it to him.

The shop worker even said that she could show him CCTV to prove this and he refused to leave the premises.

He became abusive towards the woman and another shop worker, who was her brother.

He said: “I am a big man, you don’t know who I am you P*** b****”

He also asked the sibling workers for a “square go”, and shouted a tirade of racial abuse in their direction.

Luke accepted that during the incident he punched the woman on the body, scratched her arm and spat at her. He also spat at her brother.

The workers had to activate the panic alarm in the shop.

In a separate matter, Luke plead guilty to being in possession of 949 grams of cannabis worth a street value of £4,000 on May 4, last year at Westercommon Drive.

He also plead guilty to failing to appear in court on October 19, last year.

Sheriff Kelly jailed Luke for 12 months.
