A MAN headbutted a bouncer after he was refused re-entry into a Glasgow nightclub, a court has heard.

David Holderness, 23, appeared in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to the assault which happened at the nightclub on West Regent Street on October 13, 2015.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that Holderness was witnessed by a door supervisor and head steward leaving the premises at around 12.30am on the day of the attack.

Holderness tried to re-enter but was refused due to his level of intoxication.

He was advised by the bouncers to go and get some food “to sober up”.

Holderness went to a nearby take-away and later returned to the door again.

When he was refused entry a second time, he became aggressive towards the men.

The court heard that the bouncers saw fit to restrain Holderness due to his demeanour.

The Procurator Fiscal depute said that Holderness became more irate and headbutted one of the bouncers.

The bouncer was struck on his right cheek and required no medical attention.

Police officers arrived shortly after the attack and Holderness was taken to Glasgow city centre Police Station on Stewart Street.

Holderness’ defence agent told the court his client “knows he is pretty much on his last warning.”

He told the court that his client, of East Kilbride’s Peploe Drive, is a student who is currently in the second year of a five year course at university.

Sheriff Kelly placed Holderness under supervision for one year.

He was also told that he must perform unpaid work in the community as an alternative to custody.

He was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work in the community within nine months.
