THE Evening Times took to the streets of Penilee to ask people in the area their thoughts on safety in Glasgow schools after two targeted shootings.

Ross Monaghan, 35, was shot at close range by a gunman who approached him after he dropped his daughter off at St George’s Primary School on Monday.

In September 2015, Ross Sherlock was shot at several times outside St Helen’s Primary School in Bishopbriggs as he arrived to pick up his daughter.

We asked the community of Penilee if they are worried about safety at city schools.

Gordon Dickie, 62, Penilee.

“It doesn’t concern me, it usually is quite quiet here actually. I would say the schools are pretty safe.”

Robert Robertson, 62, Robroyston.

“What can you do? No one knows who they are or who they are targeting. Some innocent child is going to end up getting hurt.”

Lisa Farquharson, 34, Penilee

“I am not concerned. My neighbours kids go to St George’s Primary but if they are going to do it a school, they clearly have no scruples. The police response has been really good however so I feel safe.”

Josephine Smyth, 69, Penilee

“I am concerned, it is quite frightening when it is on your own doorstep, It is okay when you are reading things in the paper and that but when it actually happens at your home, it hits you more.

“I think it has just been a one-off but it is a terrible time to do it.”
