A SCHOOL community is in mourning after the death of a 14-year-old girl.

Pupils at Brannock High School have been offered counselling following the death of third year pupil Codee Hillen.

Police and emergency services rushed to a home in Holytown's Apollo Path at around 12.15am yesterday.

Codee was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General where she died a short time later.

In a letter to parents at the school in Motherwell's Newarthill, headteacher Robert Colquhoun said: "It is with deep regret that I inform you of the death of one of our third year pupils Codee Hillen.

"Codee died tragically late on Monday night. Formerly a pupil of Holytown Primary School, she was known for her happy and outgoing nature, highlighting a super personality that was well appreciated by her many friends and teachers alike.

"Support across the school community is being offered to pupils by staff, psychological services and school chaplain.

"I am sure you will join me in offering our deepest sympathies and thoughts to Codee's family at this time."

One shocked parent, who did not want to be named, said: "It is tragic. She is so young. I can't bear to think if it was one of mine."

Police Scotland say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a post mortem will take place in due course.
