STRIKING janitors have been reported to the police by a construction yard boss.

Managers at McGeady's yard in Govanhill have reported protesters to police this morning after they began picketing outside the venue.

Police arrived around 10.30am today to the site on South Annandale Street.

Janitors, who are members of trade union Unison and work at Glasgow primary schools, claim McGeady's has been helping to grit playgrounds while they have been on strike.

However the firm told the Evening Times it has "nothing to do with it."

One of the striking janitors told the Evening Times: " We are here because we know McGeady's have been involved in gritting.

"We've seen their vans outside the schools.

"We are also lawfully allowed to picket, we have no idea why the police have been called. We aren't doing anything wrong."

A McGeady's spokeswoman said: "The police are here now.

"They have notified them that we have nothing to do with it."

A police spokeswoman said: " We have been made aware of a protest on South Annandale street and officers are in attendance."

The janitors have been striking for almost 12 months in a row over pay and conditions.

The staff, who are all employed by arm's length council firm Cordia, say their colleagues in other parts of the council get extra pay for carrying out unpleasant duties.

They have been in negotiations with Cordia management but have yet to come to an agreement over Working Context and Demands Payment.

The Evening Times has contacted Cordia for comment.
