A pensioner whose quad bike got stuck in sand had to be rescued by Ardrossan’s Coastguard team last week, reports Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald.

The team was called out shortly after 11.30am last Thursday following reports of an elderly person with mobility issues stuck on the beach on a quad bike, near to Seamill.

They managed to make it out to the person before high tide and helped him get the quad bike out of any danger.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: “The team responded immediately to the Coastguard Rescue Station where a further update was received regarding the exact location of the casualty, and information advising the casualty was unable to get off the stranded quad bike.

“The team proceeded to the scene and quickly located the casualty just as high tide arrived.

“The quad bike had become stuck in soft sand with team members quickly providing the necessary assistance to get the quad bike moving again and away from the incoming tide.

“With the casualty safe and well and now off the beach and able to continue on his journey home, the team stood down and returned to station to complete the necessary paperwork before booking off duty and returning back to their usual Thursday, ready to respond at a moment’s notice to the next callout.”
