Former gangland murder accused who had a failed attempt on his life outside a Glasgow primary school has fled to Spain.

Shoooting victim Ross Monaghan, 35, was seen in Glasgow airport on Thursday night before boarding a flight to Malaga following an attempt on his life.

He was shot in the shoulder outside St George's Primary School in Penilee, Glasgow on Monday morning.

The gunman remains at large.

It is claimed the gunman fired twice, with one shot missing Monaghan and the other striking his shoulder. He was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of the shooting.

The gunman was wearing a blue padded jacket, blue jeans, a dark woollen bobble hat and a woollen scarf pulled up around his face.

Police Scotland also confirmed that the gunman was pushing a four-wheel, collapsible-type buggy in a bid to blend in with other parents before he discharged the firearm at Monaghan’s back.

Police enquiries revealed the gunman may have been seen near the scene on the Friday before the shooting.

Monaghan was cleared of the murder of Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll in an Asda carpark in Robroyston in 2012.
