A PRISONER who got revenge on an inmate by attacking him in prison has appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Ryan Leishman, from Cambuslang, appeared in the dock for sentencing after pleading guilty to the assault which happened at C Hall in HM Barlinnie Prison.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that the 27-year-old was being taken to the exercise area of the adult remand hall when the incident took place on November 12, 2015.

The accused assaulted the fellow inmate by slapping and punching him on the head and body.

The fight was split up by a witness and the incident was caught on CCTV.

Leishman’s defence agent told the court that the actions of his client were “completely opportunistic”.

He added that the two men were known to each other on the outside world and had previously been involved in a dispute before being sent to jail.

It was alleged that the complainer had previously broken into Leishman’s home while his brother was inside with a friend.

One of men was slashed by the complainer.

The attack was said to be in retaliation for this assault.

Leishman, who was appearing in custody, was sentenced to a further 15 weeks imprisonment for the assault.
