CONSULTATION dates have been announced to allow local residents to share their views on the development of the former Victoria Infirmary.

Sanctuary Group, which bought the building from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, plan to turn the site into around 400 flats.

Now the housing association has announced its plans for a public consultation about the development.

Peter Martin, Group Director of Development at Sanctuary Group, said: “We’re very excited to have the opportunity to redevelop the old Victoria Infirmary site and are looking forward to hearing from the community at six drop-in sessions.

“We understand how important this site is to local people and our aim is to create a development that fits perfectly in this landmark location.”

The consultation will be held at a number of two-day drop-in events at Langside Library on Sinclair Drive in February and March.

The first consultation events will take place on Thursday, February 9 and Saturday, February 11.

Sanctuary Group said these will focus on the ‘masterplan’ stage of the development and encourage discussion about the site in the context of the wider Battlefield area.

Four weeks later, on Thursday, March 9 and Saturday, March 11, the second set of consultation events will take place.

These will aim to look at more detailed design ideas and proposals.

The consultation programme will finish with two final drop-in sessions on Thursday, March 23 and Saturday, March 25, where the findings of the previous events will be presented.

An exhibit of the proposed planning design will also be shown at this event.

These final sessions will also act as the statutory consultation meeting.

The Thursday sessions will run from 2pm till 7pm, while the Saturday sessions will be from 10am till 3pm.

Representatives from Sanctuary and the design team, Collective Architecture, will be attending each drop-in session to answer questions, record opinions and discuss any concerns.

Demolition works have already begun at the site, which angered community campaigners who said works should not begin until after public consultation.

Sanctuary has previously said plans will involve keeping the listed administration building along with key heritage features including Battlefield Road's Nightingale wings and the gatehouse off Langside Road.

The original Sanctuary Housing bid was for 347 new properties but more recently the social housing provider has said 400 new homes are planned for the nine acre site, bought from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde on August 1 last year.
