A PRAM used in a botched shooting on a former gangland murder accused has taken cops investigating as far as China as they look to find out where the buggy came from.

Top cop Detective Chief Inspector John Kennedy has admitted that the search to find out where the pram was bought has caused officers “a slight delay” in their enquiry.

The gunman was pushing a four-wheel, collapsible-type buggy in a bid to blend in with other parents before he discharged the firearm at Ross Monaghan’s back.

Monaghan, 35, was shot at close range by the gunman who approached him after he dropped his daughter off at St George’s Primary School in Penilee last Monday.

DCI Kennedy said: “We have not recovered the pram at all. What we have been looking at is similar type prams.

“Looking at the manufacturer, the distribution and the retail aspects of the prams to try to track it down.”

He added: “There are many buggies on the market and the models change regularly - that is what is causing a slight delay in that part of the enquiry.

“We continued enquiries right back to China - that is how far we have gone with this to try and establish where the pram comes from.”

His admission comes just as at least 20 uniformed police officers and several plain clothed detectives took to the streets surrounding the school a week to the day an attempt was made on Monaghan’s life.

Police spoke to locals in Hollybush Road and Muirdyke Road in a bid to gather more information in relation to the murder bid and catch the gunman who remains at large.

The force also previously said the gunman may have been casing out his hit the Friday before he fired shots.

DCI Kennedy said: “We are now one week into this inquiry, and this operation is about speaking to people who were in the area last week, or who perhaps use this route on a regular basis. Hopefully we can jog their memories into remembering something they may have seen or heard that could assist our investigation.

“We have a team of experienced detectives dedicated to this enquiry in an attempt to identify the person responsible.

“Our inquiries so far have shown that the suspect is believed to have been in the area, outside the school, on Friday, January 13, with the buggy, so I’m appealing to parents, local residents, or anyone who was in the area that day and who may have seen something to contact us.”

He added: “It’s possible the suspect made off in a vehicle and I’m asking people in the surrounding areas to think back and consider if they noticed anything unusual or suspicious. Did you see the man with the buggy, did you see him get into a vehicle?

“I’d like to reassure the local community that we are working to identify who is responsible for this incident.

The brazen attack took place as shocked parents dropped their young children off at the school.

The gunman scampered in the confusion onto Hollybrush Road towards Langstile Road.

He was wearing a blue padded jacket, blue jeans, a dark woollen bobble hat and a woollen scarf pulled up around his face.

It is understood that Monaghan took himself to hospital for treatment and was released only a few hours later following the murder bid.

He was then seen in Glasgow airport on Thursday night before boarding a flight to Malaga.

Monaghan was cleared of the murder of Kevin ‘Gerbil’ Carroll in an Asda carpark in Robroyston in 2012.
