Masked armed robbers have made off with a five-figure sum of cash after robbing a G4S van on Sauchiehall Street.

Two members of G4S staff were making a delivery to the Royal Bank of Scotland around 9.45pm on Monday night when they were approached by three armed men.

The men threatened the workers and demanded they hand over the box of money.

A five-figure sum was stolen before the three suspects got into a white Seat Leon car which headed along West Nile Street towards the Cowcaddens area.

The car has since been recovered in Scott Street, near Stow College, and will undergo a full forensic examination.

Police have said that enquiries so far have revealed that immediately after the robbery, the car did a U-turn on West Nile Street, almost causing a cyclist to crash.

Officers are appealing for this cyclist, who could possibly be a delivery driver as he had a storage box attached to the rear of the bike, to contact them.

CCTV footage is currently being gathered for additional information on the incident and the suspects, who are described as wearing dark coloured clothing and had balaclavas on to conceal their identities.

One of the men is described as having a local accent.

Detective Inspector Alasdair Barlow said: “We are reviewing CCTV images in and around the city centre.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed the car, in particular the cyclist.  As the car left the scene, it was being driven at speed so people may have noticed its excessive speed.
