A TEACHER who tweeted about the IRA and pupil attainment has been reprimanded.

Victoria Orr posted inappropriate material on her Twitter feed while teaching at two separate schools.

While on a placement at Airdrie Academy she made “inappropriate comments” on the social media site.

Then, while at Park Mains High School she made “comments which made reference to the IRA”.

Ms Orr also tweeted about pupils and used their initials in the online comments.

A spokesman for Renfrewshire Council said guidance on the use of social media had now been issued to teachers.

He said: “Social media has become part of everyday life and we have issued guidance for employees using it for either work or personal purposes.

“This guidance makes employees aware of their responsibilities when using social media and clearly details the standards of conduct and behaviour expected.”

The secondary biology and science teacher has now received an official reprimand from the General Teaching Council (GTC) for Scotland over her conduct.

“Inappropriate” tweets were made between September and December 2015 while working at Park Mains High School in Erskine, Renfrewshire.

The teacher admitted to the governing body she made “inappropriate comments” on her Twitter page while on a placement at Airdrie Academy during the 2014/15 school session.

The General Teaching Council’s reprimand order over the social media comments will be recorded against Ms Orr in its official register for two years.

The governing body issued the Reprimand with Consent Order on December 30 last year.

Ms Orr is not believed to be currently working for Renfrewshire Council.
