A CAREER criminal has been cleared of raping a teenage girl while out walking his dog.

Garry Collins was accused of attacking the 19 year-old at a park in Ruchazie, Glasgow in March last year.

She told a jury how the alleged incident had made her contemplate jumping off a motorway bridge.

Collins was today/yesterday found not proven following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

But, the 46 year-old still ended up on the sex offenders register after being convicted of molesting a woman on her lunch break last February.

Collins – who was wearing a high-vis jacket and hard hat at the time – grabbed and kissed the 29 year-old in Glasgow city centre.

He pounced after apparently looking for directions to get to an eye test appointment.

After the verdicts, prosecutor Steven Borthwick revealed Collins, of the city's Cranhill, had a lengthy criminal record.

This included a jail-term for attempted murder as well as convictions for theft, drugs and firearms crimes.

He had been freed early from Shotts jail when he struck.

Judge Sean Murphy QC deferred sentencing for reports.

As he was being lead handcuffed to the cells, Collins moaned: “I don't believe it, man.”
