POLICE have issued an appeal to trace a cyclist who could help identify three masked armed robbers who stole a five-figure sum from a city centre bank.

Two G4S security staff were left ‘shaken’ after they were robbed while making a delivery to the Royal Bank of Scotland on Sauchiehall Street.

The staff were approached by the armed men, who demanded that they hand over the box of cash, around 9.45pm on Monday.

The money lost is understood to be in the region of £50,000.

CCTV footage gathered by police revealed that the suspects made off in a white Seat Leon car immediately after the incident.

The vehicle headed along West Nile Street, where it made a U-turn almost causing a cyclist to crash.

It then proceeded to the Cowcaddens area.

Cops are now looking to speak to the cyclist, who they believe could possibly be a delivery driver as he had a storage box attached to the read of the bike.

The car has since been recovered in Scott Street, near the former Stow College, and is undergoing a full forensic examination.

No-one was injured in the incident but both members of G4S staff, aged 47 and 49, have been left badly shaken.

The suspects are described as wearing dark-coloured clothing and had balaclavas on to conceal their identities.

One of the men is described as having a local accent.

Detective Inspector Alasdair Barlow said: “We are reviewing CCTV images in and around the city centre.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed the car, in particular the cyclist. “As the car left the scene, it was being driven at speed so people may have noticed its excessive speed.

“Any information, no matter how irrelevant or insignificant it may seem, could prove vital in helping us progress our inquiries. I would urge people to get in touch with us and tell us what you saw or what you know.”

Gareth Skinner, head of operational risk for G4S Cash Solutions, said: “One of our cash crew members was the victim of an attack on Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, while servicing a local bank branch.

“Fortunately the crew member has not suffered any injuries but has been badly shaken by the attack.

“We are working closely with Police Scotland to ensure those behind the attack are brought to justice.”
