A website appearing to announce a new music festival set to take over Glasgow this summer has been launched.

The site has announced that TRNSMT Festival, pronounced Transmit Festival, will be taking place in Glasgow Green over three days from Friday 7 July to Sunday 9 July 2017.

Details of the festival, including line-ups, are yet to be revealed.

A website and Twitter account dedicated to the event appeared online, inviting people to sign-up to receive news and pre-sale transmissions first.

Organisers DF Concerts confirmed that they are behind the launch but could not disclose any more information on the festival.

TRNSMT will effectively replace T in the Park which organisers announced would be "taking a break" from its usual July slot, in November.

The news came after several problems and controversies over its site at Strathallan Castle.

A statement said: "For over 23 years, T in the Park has been at the heart of Scotland’s music scene – with you, by our side. But for now, sadly, we need to take a break.

"We launched T in the Park with one aim: to give Scottish music fans an unforgettable weekend with their friends enjoying the best acts from around the globe.

"And to say we achieved this together is an understatement.

"We created more than just a festival; we created a family and decades of wonderful memories."

So far acts including Coldplay and Radiohead have been tipped as potential headliners for Glasgow's newest music festival.

It is thought that it will be "non-camping" event to attract an older demographic.

Glasgow Green has previously played host to a selection of artists including The Strokes, Pulp, The Stone Roses and Primal Scream and was a key feature in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
