Ed Sheeran will make a triumphant return to the SSE Hydro this spring following a year long break from music.

The Grammy award-winning singer will play the Glasgow venue on April 16 and 17 as part of his new world tour.

The tour dates announcement follows the release of his chart topping new singles Shape of You and Castle on the Hill.

Sheeran, 25, thanked his fans for their support and praise as he returned to the limelight in a post on Instagram.

He said: "Truly overwhelmed with the reaction to these new songs.

"I've never had anything like this, thank you for all your wonderful messages."

The tour will follow the official release of Sheeran's latest album, Divide, on March 3.

Other UK venues on his tour schedule include Newcastle, Nottingham, Birmingham and London.

Tickets for the show, priced £44-£77, including admin fee, go on sale at 10am on Thursday, February 2.
