Paige Doherty’s killer John Leathem has moved jails over fears for his safety.

It's understood the 32-year-old has been transferred from Low Moss prision, near Glasgow to HMP Dumfries.

The move comes after prision bosses discoverd inmates wanted to harm him, according to The Scottish Sun.

Leathem was locked up in December for the brutal murder of the Clydebank schoolgirl.

His defence lawyer told judges that Leathem's 27 year sentence, which includes six years for an attempt to defeat the ends of justice, was 'excessive' and 'inconsistent with comparable cases'.

Judges will issue a written decision on an appeal to reduce his sentence over the next few weeks.

The 32-year-old stabbed the defenceless teenager 61 times and inflicted a total of more than 140 injuries when she stopped for a breakfast roll at his Delicious Deli in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, on March 19.

Last month, Paige's mother Pamela took to Facebook and shared the graphic details of her daughter's injuries while waiting to hear if her killer's sentence will be reduced.

She said: “Everyday I sit and wait for that phone call to let us know if his sentence will be lowered.

“I pray that the justice system of Scotland doesn’t allow this man to have any sentence lowered whatsoever.

“Our little girl suffered the most horrific death I could imagine.”
