A woman has been jailed after bottling two innocent passengers on a train.


Rosemary Paterson, 31, was sentenced to three years behind bars for the violent attack with left a 23-year-old woman with severe facial injuries.


Paterson, of Kinholm Street in East Ayrshire, was travelling on the 9.12pm train from Glasgow to Kilmarnock on October 12, 2016, with friend Ciaran Hardie.


A fight broke out between Paterson and Hardie which turned violent. 
The woman hit a 25-year-old male passenger on the head with a bottle which then broke. 


She then used the broken object on the man's 23-year-old female friend, leaving her with horrific face and neck injuries. 


Police were called and Paterson was quickly arrested.


She was taken to police custody and was charged with two counts of serious assault, and pleaded guilty to the charge at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.


Lead investigator Detective Sergeant Marc Francey, said: “Paterson’s action on that train were shockingly violent and dangerous. 


"She struck her victim with a broken glass bottle which caused some extremely nasty cuts requiring stitching.


"Thankfully the cuts have now all healed but the psychological trauma of this will stay with her indefinitely. 


A ScotRail Alliance spokesperson, said: “We do not tolerate violence or abuse of any kind towards our customers or staff. 


"We are thankful that the perpetrator of this attack has been brought to justice.”


Ciaran Hardie, 30, pleaded guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on January 23 to a charge under Section 38 of the Criminal Justice and Licensing Act. 


He will be sentenced on February 27.
