PLANS to replace a former bus terminus after is closed a year ago are nearing completion.

The terminus serving Penilee was shut in February 2016 due to the development of a nearby housing complex.

Hundreds of residents rely on the 9A service, which was stationed at the terminus on Gleddoch Road, and concerned were raised about its future.

Operators First Bus moved the bus stop further down Gleddoch road as a temporary measure, until a more permanent decision was made on the next location for the terminal.

The transport firm said the interim plans were not ideal, with buses being forced to park on the street instead of in a layby.

Cars had to drive round the obstructing buses stationed close to Rosshill Road.

A public meeting was held last month to discuss the possible options, with both First Bus and SPT nominating Deansfield as their preferred option, along with a number of residents.

It is understood this will be the likely location for the new transport hub, provided funding of between £100,000 and 200,000 can be secured.

Labour Councillor Alistair Watson, who represents the Craigton area, said: "We had instructed SPT and the city council to look at options for the new bus terminus.

"Basically what happened was the bus operator and SPT needed a terminus capable of handling two buses, which would allow them to maintain the very good frequency of the service that was there.

"My concern was always that fi the terminus wasn't there the service would have been cut.

"We looked at the options proposal a few weeks ago, residents were invited to have a view and they went for the option on the north side of the scheme.

"It will be off road and I think it's a good option for everyone.

" There will be some people who are not happy who stay furthest away but SPT an the council are committed to speaking to the operator and making sure that the service is accessible as possible to everyone in Penilee."

Along with the bus terminus, councillor Watson said he would like to see an improvement across Penilee's bus infrastructure.

He said: "If we are spending money on this new bus terminus it's a good ideas to upgrade the rest of the network, to the other bus stops and such.

"None of them have raised kerbs like they have put in everywhere else.

"I have put a pitch in for that which seems to have been well received."

An SPT spokeswoman said: "No plan, as yet, has been agreed for the new bus terminus.

"SPT awaits the results of further analysis being carried out by Glasgow City on all the feasible options including the preferred option of Deanfield."

First Bus has written to the council to confirm their preferred location would also be Deanfield.
