POLICE discovered herbal cannabis worth more than £1,000 after searching the property of a man they arrested.

Gerard Farrell, 30, was in the dock for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to behaving in an aggressive or abusive manner, and being in possession of cannabis.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that police officers initially came across Farrell in Main Street in Rutherglen on February 6, last year.

They realised he was under the

influence of alcohol and when they approached him he became abusive.

He was warned about his behaviour, but continued to shout and swear.

They arrested him, and as the police officers attempted to place handcuffs on him, he began to struggle with them. As he was being placed in a vehicle to take him to Cathcart Police Office, he threatened: “I’ll bite your f****** noses off.”

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court police officers obtained a search warrant for Farrell’s Cambuslang home, in Dean Park Drive.

During that search, 105g of herbal cannabis was discovered, said to have a street value of £1,040.

Farrell’s defence agent told the court that there was no suggestion his

client was concerned in the supply of substances.

He added that the drugs had been bought in bulk for Farrell and his friends to use in a social setting.

He also said that his client, who said he had had too much to drink on the day, felt the police were heavy handed with him.

Sheriff Cameron placed Farrell on a restriction of liberty order for five months.
