I was really disappointed to hear that Rob Kiernan had been abused by supporters at Ibrox. That is absolutely ridiculous.

When a player’s confidence is low, the fans having a dig at them when they are on the park is not going to help. To do it when he is in the stand is just unacceptable.

We know that it hasn’t been a good season but the club pride themselves on being the Rangers family. We win together and we lose together and that is the way it will always be.

I have been critical of Rob in this column and on radio and the fans have had their say on his performances as well. But that doesn’t mean you have a go at him like that.

When the ball is there to be won outside of the box, he can win his headers and clear his lines.

But, in the box he is far too far away from strikers and he makes mistakes. He will mistime his jump, he will lose his man and he will get caught ball watching.

I can understand why the fans are not happy with him, especially when they see the same mistakes being made and Rangers being punished time after time.

Rob will know himself that he is making these errors, though. He doesn’t need people shouting at him in the stand.

His confidence will have taken a hit in the last few weeks and the last thing he needs is to be walking through Ibrox and for his own supporters to be having a go at him.

But he is not the first one that it has happened to and he won’t be the last. I got it near the end of my time at Rangers when the goals weren’t coming.

When you were coming out of the front door or going to your car, there were fans that gave you a bit of stick.

There will be dozens and dozens of players that will be able to tell a story about being targeted by supporters.

It doesn’t do you any good. The fans should really think before they open their mouths.
