TRIBUTES have been paid to a young man who died following a street disturbance.

Friends have told of their shock at the death of Stephen Russell, who died after being found seriously injured outside a house on Bardowie Street in Possilpark.

Known as Steph, the 20-year-old was rushed by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary at around 3.45pm on Friday.

However, he died of his wounds later that day.

Floral tributes were left at the scene for the young man. One card on a bouquet read: “Still doesn’t feel like you’re gone, brother.

“God only takes the best. Miss you. From your bro’s Caitlin and Marc. Fly high angel.”

Another read: “You were and are the most kind hearted, genuine guy you could ever meet.

“Forever in my heart mate. Steve and Rollo.”

A Go Fund Me page has also been set up with the aim of raising £1000 for funeral costs.

A message on the page reads: “Together we are raising money for our boy Steph to get him the send off he deserves.

“Most loyal person ever and would do anything for anyone.”

His broken hearted girlfriend Morgan Barr changed her profile picture on Facebook to a snap of she and Steph in happier times.

Detectives from the Police Scotland Major Investigation Team are investigating and said a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death, which is currently being treated as suspicious by officers.

Detective Inspector Grant Durie said: “Specialist forensic teams have been active around the area and detectives and officers have been carrying out door to door enquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“At this time, I would ask for the assistance of the local community in determining what took place on Saturday afternoon.

“It is possible that you heard or witnessed a disturbance on Bardowie Street and if so I would ask you to contact police immediately.

“Any information received will greatly assist us in determining how this young man lost his life.

“I want to reassure local residents that we are doing all we can to find out what took place and determine how this man died.

“Additional officers are patrolling the areas of Bardowie Street and Saracen Street. I would ask local residents to also approach those officers should they have any information or wish to discuss their concerns.”
