A PENSIONER is in a critical condition after she was knocked down while crossing the road.
Police are now keen to trace witnesses to the incident which happened in Hamilton yesterday.
The 85-year-old was struck at around 1pm as she was crossing Gateside Street near to Woodside Walk.
She was stuck by a Chevrolet Kalos car being driven by a 46-year-old man.
Emergency services attended and the woman was rushed by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where she is being treated for her injuries. Hospital staff describe her condition as critical.
The driver of the car was uninjured.
Sergeant Joe McGuckien of the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Motherwell Police Station is appealing for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information that may assist his ongoing investigation to contact his office through 101.
