The girlfriend of a man who died in a New Year's Day house fire has described him as "the love of my life".

Cameron Logan, 23, died in the blaze at his family home in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, in the early hours of January 1.

His partner Rebecca Williams was rescued from the Achray Place house and was initially in a critical condition in hospital while his parents were treated for smoke inhalation.

The family dog, Gomez, also died.

Police Scotland launched a major investigation and Mr Logan's brother Blair, 26, was arrested two weeks after the fire.

He has since appeared in court charged with murder, assault to severe injury, danger to life and attempted murder. He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

Speaking before Mr Logan's funeral in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, on Friday, Ms Williams paid tribute to her boyfriend.

The 24-year-old Heart radio journalist told the station: "Cameron was a teddy bear.

"He had such a big personality, but with a sensitive soul. And he was so funny and kind.

"He had an amazing ability to make people smile and feel good about themselves.

"He was always trying to improve himself and expand his horizons, something I really admired in him.

"He'd finished university with his best-ever marks in his final exams and wanted to join the police to become a detective. I have no doubt he would have achieved it.

"I am so proud to have been his girlfriend. He was the love of my life."

Dozens of mourners are expected to gather for the service

Ms Williams was released from hospital almost three weeks after the fire and has said she is ''getting stronger every day''.
