COPS discovered a package of cannabis - the size of a football - in the back seat of a car after pulling over a driver.

Masood Davoodiford, 49, was pulled over after cops became concerned over the way he was driving on Dumbarton Road on April 23, last year.

He plead guilty to being in possession of Class B cannabis with an intent to supply to another or others at Glasgow Sheriff Court where he appeared for sentencing.

The court heard when police officers spoke to Davoodiford at the side of the road through his car window, they noted a strong smell of cannabis.

Officers then spotted what they thought was a football behind the driver’s seat.

And when they pierced through it, they saw a green herbal material.

They also recovered £400 in £50 notes. The court heard the value of the drugs was at around £2200.

Davoodiford, who was accompanied by an interpreter, had been living in the UK for 17 years after coming from Iran.

Sheriff Cameron told Davoodiford, of Whitehurst, Bearsden, that he had avoided custody.

He will complete 240 hours of unpaid work in six months and be placed under supervision for 18 months.

Sheriff Cameron did not apply a discount for an early plea.

He said: “Your discount is that you are not going to prison.”
