Police are appealing for witnesses after a 12-year-old girl and three adults were sent to hospital following a serious road crash.

The collision between a Seat Leon and a Dacia Logan took place around 8.50am yesterday morning on the A71 at Drumclog, Strathaven.

Officers were called to the scene along with ambulance crews.

The 46-year-old female driver was taken to Wishaw General and medical staff have described her condition as stable.

The 50-year-old man and the 12-year-old girl who were passengers in the Seat were also taken to hospital and were released after treatment.

The 59-year-old male driver of the Dacia Logan was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock.

He was also released after treatment.

Constable David Foster from the Divisional Road Policing Unit said: "It is important that we speak to anyone who witnessed the crash to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell via 101."
