A rapist who threatened to set fire to his victim's home was jailed for six years today (mon).

Kamil Szmul (32) attacked the woman and raped her at a flat in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow after ignoring her when she told him she did not want sex.

Polish national Szmul, formerly of Balornock Road, Glasgow, also shouted and swore at the victim, threatened her with violence and that he would burn down her home.

He also sexually assaulted a seven-year-old boy in the city and struck the child with the back of his hand in December 2015.

A judge told Szmul at the High Court in Edinburgh that he had been convicted of a number of offences the most serious concerning the sexual abuse of the woman and child.

John Morris QC told the rapist through a translator that he would be placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

Defence counsel Brian McConnachie QC said Szmul continued to deny the crimes.

He was found guilty of rape, sexual assault, assault and threatening behaviour at an earlier trial.
