A SCOTTISH ice cream maker has been dubbed ‘King Cone’ after winning the UK’s Ice Cream championship for the third time.

Ayrshire-based Philip Mancini completed his hat-trick of successes with a triumph at the awards in Harrogate.

Mr Mancini, who runs his family business in Ayr, is the third generation of his family to take the helm having made the product for 43 years.

Mr Mancini said: “It was like winning the Champion’s League of Ice Cream.

“There was tough competition this year so I thought to myself, “Wow that was special”.”

Although this is now his third win in the competition, the 59- year-old had to up his game again after only placing in the top five in 2016.

But organisers say that this year’s win is a true testimony of Mr Mancini’s craft.

Zelica Carr, chief executive of The Ice Cream Alliance, said: “When you look at the quality of the competition this is a truly remarkable achievement.

“Philip continues to demonstrate what a skilled ice cream maker he is.”
