WITH more than 50 varieties on offer Glasgow's annual Potato Day is sure to keep keen gardeners interested.

Now in its sixth year, the event will be held on Sunday, February 26 from 11am to 3pm.

The Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre, in Parkhead, will host the event where green fingered growers can buy as little as one seed potato to a 2.5kg bag.

Glasgow Allotment Potato Day organisers say the crop is easy to grow in back courts or on balconies, as well as in gardens and allotments, making it perfect for amateurs.

Organiser Sandra Quadrelli said there will also be onion sets, shallot sets, garlic as well as fertilizer and potato planter bags on sale.

Glasgow Food Network will be running a seed swap table with workshops about growing.

Gardeners can also support the Tatty Bash and grow a potato for charity.

For £2, competitors will be given a pot and one seed potato tuber to grow a potato before returning in August to a “ weigh- ins “ to see who has grown the heartiest tatty.

All proceeds go to the charity Water Aid.

There will also be the chance to swap gardening magazines and recipes while children will have the chance to make masks with the The Scottish Mask and Puppet centre.

After a hard day's tattie shopping, gardeners can relax with hot drinks and home baking while listening to music from The Barrow Band.
