FRANK McAveety said Labour in Glasgow needs to be proud of its achievements and the party in general must promote it’s record in power.

The city council leader said Glasgow was the first council to introduce the Living wage which he said was “unfashionable at the time but now it is mainstream”.

Ahead of the council election campaign and facing a strong challenge from the SNP he said Labour’s record stands up to scrutiny. He said Glasgow’s investment in schools has led to “the best estate in the UK”.

And he said it has improved housing in the city in line with founding principles of the Labour Party.

Speaking at a fringe event at the party conference in Perth he said: “ We need to defend our record. Too many people don’t do it.”

He denied the cuts were only the fault of Westminster. He said: “ The cuts are made in Scotland, from girners.”
