THE away crowds might not get the warmest welcome but Ibrox stadium is in the running for a hospitality award.

Elior UK,which runs the events venue in the home ground of Rangers, has been shortlisted in this year’s Best Bar None Scotland National Awards alongside 10 other Glasgow venues.

The awards acknowledge innovative practice, customer service and safety in the licensed trade.

Sauchiehall Street student venue Campus is in the running for best nightclub and the University of Strathclyde Students Union is in the running for specialist entertainment venue.

The Garage nightclub is among the nominees for the award for, Innovation in Social Responsibility and Highland hangout the Snaffle Bit has been shortlisted for best bar.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on March 30.

Eleanor Lee, Community Safety Glasgow and Lead for Best Bar None in Glasgow, said: “We are delighted that the premises nominated from the city have made the shortlist and wish them well at the finals.

“They have all worked hard to achieve high standards in licensing practice and this is the end reward. Good luck to all premises on the night.”

Accreditation to the scheme shows the venue and its staff have met a level of standards.

Licensed premises that wish to join Best Bar None are assessed by trained, impartial assessors and applicants are scored according to national guidelines.

Venues are awarded either a Gold, Silver or Bronze award and an overall winner is selected in each category and go forward to the National Awards.

Arlene Campbell, National Lead for Best Bar None Scotland, said: “The National Best Bar None Awards continue to grow year on year and it’s great to see so many venues from different corners of Scotland being represented.

“Across the country Best Bar None accredited venues are continuously raising standards and as always judging will be difficult given the high calibre of finalists on show.
