A MAN got himself arrested by abusing police officers to get away from a claimed life threatening situation.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court Archie Douglas admitted to acting in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence at an address in Gorbals Street and within a police vehicle on July 31 last year.

The court heard that at 5.50am police on patrol attended the address on Gorbals Street where they found the 56-year-old acting aggressively.

The police had been called to the address because the premise had received reports that people had caused damaged to the address.

There was a group of people at the address.

Mr Douglas’ solicitor said that his client had been assaulted before the police arrived and his abuse towards the officers was a form of protection to get him away from the situation he found himself in.

Officers noted Mr Douglas has head injuries.

“He had been assaulted prior to the police arriving and in his confusion due to his intoxicated stated Mr Douglas thought he would be safer if officer took him away from the address,” said the defencing solicitor.

“He decided the best way to do this would be to get himself arrested.”

Mr Douglas was fined £140.
