The mother of a 12-year-old Rangers fan who was bottled on his way to an Old Firm match has hit out after the thug responsible escaped justice.

Laura Mackay had hopped DNA evidence would lead to a conviction but tests have proved negative.

Her son Kraig needed seven stitches to a cut on his head after a bottle was flung across the road as he walked to Hampden for the Old Firm game in October last year.

Police have since contacted the family to tell them the case has gone cold.

Laura told the Daily Record: "They will not be looking into it any further.

"They sent the bottle away for analysis and it came back with some DNA on it.

"They then sent it away to be enhanced but there was not enough for anything to be put through the system."

Police confirmed numerous inquiries have been carried out in relation to the incident but so far no one has been arrested.

Laura added: “The case won’t be completely shut. It will still be live in case anyone wants to give information, which I highly doubt now."
