GLASGOW Club Scotstoun’s pool is to shut for four months for a £750,000 refurbishment.

Essential repair and renovation work is to be carried out on the changing areas, pool and reception area.

The 22-year-old centre was previously upgraded in 2008 and 2009.

Glasgow Life, which runs the centre, said staff are aiming to make sure there is as little disruption to visitors as possible.

Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life, said: “Glasgow Club Scotstoun is a popular venue for adults and young people alike, and these repairs and renovations will ensure the facility continues to serve the local community for years to come.

“We realise the works will be an inconvenience for Glasgow Club customers, and our project team has worked hard to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Members can use any Glasgow Club facility in the city – and our staff will happily welcome you to any alternative venue you wish to visit.”

The news follows on from a closure in October 2016 when the pool was drained during the busy October week holidays.

An inspection at the time revealed there was a technical issue with the facility.

The works will include refurbishment of the health and fitness changing areas and repairs to the venue’s 25m swimming pool.

There will also be the installation of new controlled gate access at the reception area - similar to the gate system in Glasgow Club Kelvin Hall.

Scotstoun’s swimming pool will close to the public from Monday, March 27 for around four months, reopening in early July.

The venue’s gym, sports halls, and fitness class timetable will be unaffected.

While the pool is closed, Glasgow Club members are reminded that their membership allows them to use any facility across the city, including Glasgow Club pools in Drumchapel, Maryhill and Bellahouston.

Customers enrolled in the Learn to Swim programme will be contacted directly regarding relocation of swimming lessons.

Between Monday April 24 and Monday June 5, the health and fitness changing areas will close to the public to undergo renovation.

Customers will still be able to access the venue’s alternative changing areas.

In the summer of 2008 Scotstoun pool was shut for weeks after structural problems were found in the roof.

The pool needed major repair work and bosses took the opportunity to update toilets, changing rooms and showers around the pool.

The gym was also given an upgrade.

In the same year, work began on a new stadium and running track next to the main leisure centre building and was finished in 2009.

The popular centre has a 25m swimming pool with three dedicated lanes, and a teaching pool with beach entry for children and swimming lessons.

The pool is part of the Scotstoun Sport Campus complex built for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Squash and table tennis competitions were held at the campus during the Games.
