A man has been charged in connection with an alleged attempted murder in Greenock.

Police were called to the disturbance in Nelson Street at about 12.50am on Sunday.

Officers said a 24-year-old man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital in the town with a head injury following an alleged assault being treated as a murder bid.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested over the incident and is being held in police custody.

He was treated for a head wound following the disturbance while another man, aged 20, suffered face and arm injuries.

The arrested man is expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court.

Police Scotland said their inquiries are continuing and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
