A crowdfunding page has been set up to help the family of tragic Craig Kearney. 

The 24-year-old lost his life in East Kilbride after succumbing to serious injuries in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

Now a JustGiving page has been established with the aim of raising £3000 for the amateur football player's relatives.

Describing Craig, the page reads: "He was outgoing and a very ambitious young man. 

"From a young age he was always into his sports.. he had a bright future ahead of him.

"He was going places in his life and on the fifth of March that had all been taken from him, our hearts go out to all Craig's family.

"We're trying to raise some funds for his family at this sad sad time. RIP Criag Kearney you will always be in our hearts."

The appeal has already raised £1890, and garnered several touching tributes. 

Allison Bowers wrote: "Such dreadful news - I only spoke to Craig a couple of times for work. I have friends and family who live in East Kilbride and this has shocked everyone. Please accept my sincere condolences."

Laura Gray added: "My heart goes out to your parents, sister and all who knew and loved you. Rip young man."

Craig, of Kingston Avenue, Neilston, was found injured in the street on Lochranza Drive in East Kilbride at about 2.20am on Sunday.

Emergency services attended the scene but he died a short time later.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on Monday in connection with the death but was released from custody pending further inquiries.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal received a report concerning a 46-year-old male in connection with an alleged incident in East Kilbride on March 5 2017.

"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, he was liberated from custody pending further inquiries and did not appear in court."
