GLASGOW firefighters have received training to help them better assist members of the community who have been diagnosed with dementia.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service area manager for Glasgow, George McGrandles, unveiled that his firefighters received the training in a report to councillors at Glasgow City Council.
His report was prepared for the Safe Glasgow Group which meets at Glasgow’s City Chambers today, and includes councillors and other partners.
The report states that the training was provided to Pollok and Govan fire stations
Polmadie and Castlemilk fire stations are expected to receive the next phase of training soon.
Anne Marie Simpson, Project Lead for the NHS 8 Pillars of Model Community Support, delivered the training to the firefighters.
The training enables fire service staff to identify community members who may have dementia symptoms and often present a higher risk from fire or unintentional harm.
