A MAN was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court for attacking supermarket security staff after stealing £5 worth of food.

Alan Tominey was stopped by security staff at the Tesco on Annick Street after he stole food from the store.

The court heard that the 32-year-old appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and, as he attempted to leave the store with the stolen goods, supermarket security staff attempted to restrain the accused from leaving the premise.

Tominey refused to comply with the staff and he started to swing the wire of a pair of hair clippers with a large plug socket at the end towards them.

He swung about the wire and hit one of the two security staff on the head with the plug.

After getting away police were informed.

Tominey admitted that on June 14 at Tesco in Annick Street he stole a quantity of food.

He further admitted that on the same date at the same place he assaulted a security guard by striking him on the head with an electrical wire and plug.

He also admitted that on the same date at the same place he assaulted another security guard by attempting to strike him on the body with the electrical wire and plug.

Sentencing sheriff Young imposed a stint of unpaid work for Tominey to carry out - a total of 130 hours. The sheriff also placed him under supervision for a period of six months.
