Scotland will have its referendum, the SNP deputy leader has said.

Angus Robertson said  Theresa May was “wagging her finger at Scotland” like children put on “the naughty step”.

He said “you are not going to get away with it”.

Mr Robertson said just a day after the Prime Minister and the Tories said they would deny permission for a second referendum, that it will happen.

He said: “Let there be no doubt, Scotland will have its referendum and the people of this country will have their choice. They will not be denied their say.

“Scotland's referendum is going to happen, and no UK Prime Minister should dare to stand in the way of Scottish democracy.”

Nicola Sturgeon’s deputy said the Tories were “panicked and scared” of the result but that the decision should not rest with Westminster but with the Scottish Parliament and the Scotish people.

MR Robertson opened the party’s spring conference in Aberdeen with a speech about the refusal of the Tories to Nicola Sturgeon’s call for a second referendum.

He repeated the First Minister’s claim that any refusal would be a “democratic outrage”.

The vote should happen, he said, once the terms of Brexit are known but before the UK leaves the EU.

He said the Prime Minister had no intention og securing a deal with Scotland on the Brexit deal.

Mr Robertson said: “You might have seen on Prime Ministers Question time wagging her finger towards Scotland and lecturing us on what was good for us, as if we were naughty children who should shut up and sit on the naughty step. Well I've got news for you Prime Minister, your mask has slipped and the real face of Tory arrogance is there for all to see.
“What your arrogant bluster doesn't conceal is that you have no intention whatsoever of reaching a deal with the Scottish Government. You intend to break your promise to Scotland and you think you can get away with it.
“Well let me absolutely clear to Theresa May: you are not going to get away with it.”
