THERE is a "secret plan" to switch golf's Ryder Cup from France to Gleneagles in 2018 following terrorist attacks in Paris.

Talks have taken place for the move after US officials voiced their fears about the safety of the current venue in Paris.

Alternative locations have been earmarked however, Gleneagles in Perthshire, has been tipped to host the major sport event.

The talks have come following terror atrocities by Islamic State jihadists in France including the most recent incident at Paris Orly airport yesterday.

A source told The Scottish Sun on Sunday: “The plan is in place and ready to go at the request of the Americans.

“The US were already incredibly nervous about the Ryder Cup being held in France before yesterday’s events.

“The US believe some European countries don’t have a handle on the terror threat and they may not risk it.

“But nothing is confirmed yet. It all depends on what happens with Islamic State and Iraq over the next year and the knock-on effect for mainland Europe.”

Police Scotland assistant chief constable Bernard Higgins also told the Scottish Sun on Sunday: “The force is planning for two major golf events at Gleneagles, the European Sport Championships in 2018 and the 2019 Solheim Cup.

“We have not been approached by Ryder Cup Europe about any contingency plans for 2018.”
