THE funeral of a Maryhill man who was gunned down in Glasgow last year took place this morning.
Hundreds of mourners paid their respects to Euan Johnston at a funeral mass at St Columba Church on Hopehill Road.
Known as EJ, the 26-year-old was within a black Audi RS4 with his friend last November when his killer drove up beside him in a dark-coloured Audi Q5 and delivered the fatal blow in Glasgow's Southside.
Today, Euan's family were eventually allowed to say their goodbyes to him, months after his death which is being treated as murder.
An extravagant horse and carriage delivered the young father to the chapel.
Floral tributes including grandson and EJ surrounded the hearse.
Mourners clutched an order of service which was adorned with images of Euan.
Police officers could be seen close-by with a helicopter hovering above the chapel.
It is understood family and friends of Euan will celebrate his life at a venue in Bishopbriggs.
The gunman responsible for killing Euan still remains at large. Police, however, know his movements after the shooting. He sped off in his car and was last seen turning right into Scotland Street, heading for the M8 motorway towards the Kingston Bridge.
After the shooting, emergency services rushed to the scene to save Euan but he later died in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Police believe the car used in the shooting was set on fire in Bracken Street in North Glasgow’s Parkhouse area a short time later.
Tributes were later left at the spot where he died.
The tributes included heartfelt messages from his children.
One message said: “To the best daddy in the world. I love you so much. I hope you are looking over me.”
A balloon from his parents also stated, “Number one son.”
The killing was the first of several shootings which have blighted the city in recent months.
In January, Ross Monaghan, above, was blasted on the school run outside St George’s primary in Penilee by a man pushing a pram.
The attempt on his life is still being investigated by cops.
Earlier this month, florist Ross Craig is thought to have been taking his children to nursery when a gunman appeared on his driveway in Shawlands.
Shots were fired at him and police are treating this incident as attempted murder with the gunman also still at large.
Cops are also still hunting a gunman who fired shots at Robert Daniel outside his Stepps home.
