Double Olympian Eilish McColgan met ambassadors of a women's 10k running event as she counted down to the start of the race.

The Simplyhealth great women's run begins in Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow, and passes through the city's west end.

Organisers say the clock is ticking and there are only 10 weeks to go until competitors get off their marks at the starting line.

This is the first year the event has announced six ambassadors, known as the super six.

They each have a different story and reason for running, but all share the same passion for running and achieving their goal.

Ms McColgan, who competed in the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, met the ambassadors in Glasgow's George Square to offer some training tips

She said: "If you've never done a run before, a 10k is a good place to start. You can go from the couch to a 10k in 10 weeks. It's a good time to start and it's all about building it up gradually.

"You don't need to be running miles in a week, just build it up and 10 weeks does give you a good time to prepare."

The 10k event on Sunday June 4 starts at Kelvingrove Park and passes Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow University, the Science Centre and the SSE Hydro.
