The first of many music festivals taking place in Glasgow this year kicks off today.

The BBC Radio 6 Music Festival is being held in some of the city’s many venues, bringing an eclectic line-up of performers, bands, DJs.

The O2 Academy, Barrowland Ballroom, St Luke’s and SWG3 will opening their doors for the three-day event.

Opening tonight will be electronic duo Goldfrapp, Warpaint and East Kilbride alt-rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Keeping the momentum going into Saturday will be the Festival By Day featuring live performances from Temples and a DJ set from Craig Charles.

As part of the daytime line-up, BBC 6 Radio presenters will be chatting to musicians of past and present.

John Lydon of the Sex Pistols will be in conversation with Mark Radcliffe while Emma Pollock of The Delgados and Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai, will be discussing Making Music in Glasgow with Gideon Coe.

Comedians Fern Brady, Scott Gibson and Limmy will be talking about their comedy with Shaun Keaveny.

From 5pm, acts will be taking to the stage including The Shins, Bonobo and Scottish duo Honeyblood.

On the final day, American singer-songwriter Father John Misty will be performing before sitting down with Lauren Laverne, Mark Radcliffe will be hosting folk music from King Creosote and 20-year-old rising star Holly Macve.

Icons of Scottish DIY fanzine culture The Pastels will be playing tracks and talking with broadcasters and much-loved crime writer Ian Rankin will be taking part in a Spoken Word session.

For those lucky enough to get tickets, Depeche Mode will be headlining the Barrowlands stage on Sunday as Belle & Sebastian play a homecoming show at the O2 Academy.

The whole festival will be available to watch at home on the BBC Red Button and on the 6 Music website.
