BARRATT Homes is holding a public meeting to discuss plans for a proposed housing development on Glasgow's south side.

The developer has submitted a planning application to Glasgow City Council for 132 homes at the Scottish Power site in Cathcart

Local residents are invited to give their views on the scheme on Monday, March 27 in the Blair Hall in Newlands South Church on Riverside Road.

Scottish Power is moving its 1500 employees from the site to new headquarters at Charing Cross.

As told in the Evening Times, locals raised concerns about the scale of the development, a threat to trees in the area and a lack of communication from Barratt Homes.

Some 51 objections have been received by the council in relation to the planning application.

Steven Livingston, Labour council candidate in Langside, said: "I’m obviously pleased that Barratt Homes has finally decided to hold a public meeting to discuss its proposals at the Scottish Power site but it’s evident from speaking to some local residents that they are disappointed in the perceived lack of consultation up to this point.

“Local people are concerned for a variety of reasons about Barratt Homes proposals including the scale of the development, traffic congestion and parking, impact on local schools, and the loss of green space - including the felling of up to 100 trees on site."

The public meeting is taking place between 4pm and 5.30pm on March 27.

David Scott, managing director, Barratt Homes West Scotland, said: “We are meeting residents and the community council this coming Monday.

"The purpose of this meeting is to allow residents to view our revised proposals, which were amended due to concerns raised in the consultation process.

"We fully respect the sensitive nature of this location and look forward to speaking with residents.”
