THE body who represent Scottish cops will debate whether Police Scotland is equipped to deal with a terror threat at their conference today - following the Westminster attack.

The Scottish Police Federation will hold their conference at Turnberry until Thursday - and the issue of whether police officers have enough protection will be raised.

Three people were killed and 40 were injured when the knife-wielding attacker Khalid Masood ploughed a car through pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, before storming the Parliamentary estate. He was shot dead.

After driving a 4x4 vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, Masood managed to break through the cordon outside the House of Commons and stab to death PC Keith Palmer

In a statement, The Scottish Police Federation said: "Following the terrorist attack on Westminster Bridge and at the Palace of Westminster on March 22, the Scottish Police Federation will debate the following emergency motion at their conference on March 28.

“In light of the recent brutal and savage murder of Police Constable Keith Palmer in a terrorist attack, that conference discusses the policing responses and readiness of the Police Service in Scotland to deal with the terror threat.

"Specifically that conference discusses whether the fight against terrorism risks being undermined by drastic cuts to the policing budget, the erosion of community based policing, and whether officers have sufficient personal protective equipment (including firearms) to be able to protect themselves in the event of a terrorist incident.”

The Scottish Police Federation represents all police officers in the ranks of constable, sergeant, inspector and chief inspector, police cadets and special constables; over 18,500 people, 98% of all police officers in Scotland.
