A CANNABIS growing grandfather has been told by a sheriff to clean up his act.

Henry McLean appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court having been caught growing cannabis plants in his home.

Police entered his flat, on Earl Street, Scotstoun, on December 21 last year, and found nine cannabis plants and equipment used for cultivating the Class B drug.

The 43-year-old father-of-three, who works in the construction industry, admitted growing the plants and said they were for his own use only “to save him having to buy it”.

McLean’s lawyer said, in mitigation, that his client had been consistently employed since leaving school and is of good character.

He said that McLean has held his tenancy for 43 years and has three grown up children.

However, the court heard the grandfather persists in using the drug, despite having been caught.

Sheriff Kelly, presiding, said: “You clearly have a good work ethic and the report from criminal justice social work department is good.”

But the sheriff warned: “But you continue to use cannabis.

“Now the police know you are a cannabis user and a cannabis grower they will be watching you.”

Sentencing, Sheriff Kelly said he would “hit [McLean] in the pocket” and fined him £900 reduced to £600.
