Two cats ringing a bell with their paws to summon a human to bring them food has gone viral on social media.

The footage shows the cats repeatedly pressing a bell each with their paws and being rewarded with a treat.

When the bell rings, a human arm reaches into the frame and places a food treat on each plate for the cats which they eagerly tuck in to.

As soon as the've eaten the food, they ring the bell again demanding more treats.

The video is a new take on Pavlov's Dog experiment from the 1890s conducted by Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov.

Glasgow Times:

Pavlov discovered so-called "classical conditioning" while investigating animals' gastric systems.

He found dogs would produce saliva when they heard or sensed food, but also by playing a sound not-related to food.
