THE Celtic Way at Parkhead was a sea of green, white and gold as Hoops supporters turned up in their droves to celebrate their team winning their sixth league title in a row.

Cars driving along London Road celebrated the club’s 5-0 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle yesterday by tooting their horns while supporters burst into song outside the stadium.

The club marked the special occasion by erecting the perfect selfie spot - a giant sign at the top of the Celtic Way spelling out six in a row.

This was against a backdrop of hundreds of fans coming from all over the city and beyond in an attempt to catch a glimpse of their goal-scoring idols.

Celtic FC, however, in an usual move did not return to Parkhead following the victory.

The club cited that the players had to prepare for training today and celebrations were therefore halted.

One of the club’s oldest fans Matilda Cross turned up for the affair having supported Celtic for the best part of 70 years.

The Rutherglen woman, who is 76 years old, brought along her son Peter to the Celtic way.

She said: “I have supported Celtic for 70 years since I was a kid. Brendan Rodgers is fantastic. I did have a season ticket up until a couple of years ago but now all my family go.

“I was watching the game and I thought I would come up here to celebrate.”

One-year-old Ollie Joseph Harkin was brought to Parkhead by his parents who wanted the Rutherglen tot to witness his first league win.

His mum Nicola said: “We thought we would come down to celebrate the team’s success of six-in-a-row and hopefully there is more.

“Brendan Rodgers has definitely made an impact. I think he has done really well. He is a hit with the fans as well as the players.

“I will tell the wee one about them winning six-in-a-row for years to come.”

Stephen Haney, from Bellshill, brought his daughter Taylor to Parkhead.

He said: “We came down hoping to see the team arriving to congratulate them on a great season.

“They were fantastic. Brendan Rodgers is quality. He has charisma and everything he does or says is quality. The man oozes class and he is doing a great job. I hope to see him here a bit longer.

“I can’t seen anyone stopping 10-in-a-row. Here is hoping and hopefully Brendan is here to see it through.”

His daughter Taylor, 10, added that her favourite player this season has been Scott Sinclair.

A host of famous Hoops fans and former players also took to social media to congratulate the club on their victory.

Former Celtic star Joe Ledley said: “Congratulations to Celtic FC on winning the Scottish Premiership. Well deserved, fantastic performances this season.”

He added: “What a win for the boys, great game to watch. Fans were brilliant again.”

Game of Thrones star Daniel Portman, who plays Podrick Payne in the hit HBO show, said: “That performance summed up the team this season! Dominant! Here we go, six-in-a-row.”

The Line of Duty actor and well-known Hoops fan Martin Compston expressed his delight at the win.

He said: “Champions again, still unbeaten. Enjoy the party.”

LA-based Scots actor Ross McCall, who starred in the movie Green Street, said: “One team, one vision. Congratulations Celtic FC. You’ve done us proud. Now I’m going back to bed.”
