Happy Mondays legend Shaun Ryder is coming to Glasgow this month as part of a special ‘audience with’ style event in the city’s East End.

The singer, who fronts the band which is part of the Madchester movement, will be hosting An Audience with Shaun Ryder at the Barras Art and Design Venue (BAaD) on Thursday, April 27.

The ‘evening with’ event is described by BAaD as a chance to get up and close personal with the singer.

Charismatic Ryder formed Happy Mondays in 1980 and the band went on to release two classic albums, Bummed in 1988 followed by Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches two years years later.

Following that success, he formed Black Grape releasing another unforgettable album It’s Great When You’re Straight... Yeah!

This band was Ryder’s return to the spotlight in 1995 but they eventually split in 1998.

Music aside, the star also made his debut in reality TV when he headed to the jungle for I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here.

He finished runner-up to winner and X-Factor star Stacey Soloman in the tenth series of the ITV hit show.

As a solo artist, Ryder has recorded songs with members of Talking Heads, Russell Watson and a collaboration with Gorillaz amongst many others.

The Happy Mondays are also celebrating their 30th anniversary this year with a greatest hits tour around the UK.

Scottish dates for the special series of concerts include Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom on December 20, Inverness’ The Ironworks on December 21 and Kilmarnock’s Grand Hall on December 22.

Tickets for the event, which runs from 7.30pm to 11.55pm, are on sale now for £25 plus £2 booking fee.
