Scott Brown captained Celtic to their sixth successive title last night and declared the current Parkhead team the best footballing side he has ever been part of. However, the Hoops skipper also insisted that there is more still to come from the Parkhead men his term.

Brown made his own little bit of history by becoming the only Celtic player to have won titles – seven in all now with the club – under four different managers.

The midfielder has savoured all of those but believes the quality of the football from Brendan Rodgers’ side who have won 28 games and drawn only two in the league this term have marked out this season as particularly satisfying.

“Every league win is special,” said Brown. “Everything you win as a player is special in its own way but what really made this one particularly special for me is the way we have played all season.

“We have kept the ball, we have pressed teams, we have scored so many goals and we have been able to utilise the pace in the team to great effect. It has been a real joy to play in.

“It has been great, there have been some outstanding goals and I think this is the best footballing team that I have been part of.

“We have destroyed teams at time just through the sheer pace and energy in the team and we have been able to do that because of the way we have been set up and just how fit we are.

“It is a great honour, to be captain, to be playing, to be 31 and to be feeling as fit as I am and to have played so many games for Celtic and Scotland. I just think I am an incredibly lucky person just now.

“For me to maintain this I need to make sure I train well, play well and keep as fit as I can.

“I have enjoyed every moment of my Celtic career. When you come to a top club like this there are downs along the way – when you don’t win the league, if you don’t win a Cup. But I have won seven league titles here now I feel really lucky to be able to say that

“But the season is still got a few months to go – and we don’t want to stop now.”

And Brown was quick to applaud the influence that Rodgers has had on Celtic this season.

The Celtic manager won the first league title of his managerial career yesterday and Brown has acknowledged the way he has revolutionised the club since his arrival last June.

“We have top quality players here but what we have seen this season is that we have a top quality manager as well,” said the captain.

“The lads have been great. The gaffer is big on us getting together and bonding as a team but this season we have done that but the important thing is that we have done it at the right times.”

Scott Sinclair netted a hat-trick to take his tally to 21 for the season with Brown appreciative of what he has brought to the Parkhead side.

“Scott has been outstanding,” he said. “Every time I see him cut inside I think he is going to score. He has pace, he has flair, he gets people up out there seats but here is the thing about Scott that people don’t see – he works his backside off.

“Not just on training, not just in games but all the time. He is a worker, he is always trying to get better, get stronger and his attitude is just something else. He deserves everything he gets this season because he has been tremendous.”
